TR6 TR6 CLUTCH PROBLEMS-AGAIN

Hey gang,
I'm going to remove my tranny for yet another time to try and find out why my clutch is not doing its job. The problem surfaces after I've driven for a while and everything is heated up. When it's cold, everything is fine, a nice smooth clutch action. When hot, the clutch grabs, sticks, and does not allow me to shift into gears smoothly. It is getting to be a real challenge to get home every day. I like to find someone who had this problem and what combination of parts did they use to fix it. I've had that "YOTO" bearing in there, but it seemed to wear the clutch fingers down very quickly. I've had the Roadster Factory's "Magic Clutch" set up but I sent that back to them also. All I want to do is drive my '73 TR6 every day and shift smoothly.

My TR6 has been running TRF's Magic Clutch for three years now and with no real problems. The Sachs clutch and Koyo throw out bearing are a good combination. What does Dave at TRF have to say about your problem? They have usually been pretty helpful. Are your hydraulics all in good working order. Sometimes the slave cylinder doesn't push back enough and changing the pin to the highest hole will give you a bit more throw. Look at buckeyetriumphs web site, Riedel has some excellant tech articles on everything you wanted to know about a TR6 clutch and some things you may not want to know....

Basil--I would highly suspect that the bearing carrier is hanging up on the gearbox sleeve it rides on. As the metals heat up during a drive, the clearances get smaller. You'll have to R&R the gearbox and hone the sleeve to ensure it is perfectly smooth. Also, if you did not use the 2 dowels to mate the bellhousing to the engine plate, the gearbox could be misaligned and contribute to the sticky clutch syndrome you're experiencing.

There have been mixed results with TRF's Magic Clutch. I personally favor the Gunst bearing package to the Magic Clutch (also discussed at Buckeye).

Thanks for your input Rick and Bill. I will address those issues when I remove the gearbox in the next few weeks. I'll let you know if that does the trick.
