TR6 TR6 cigarette lighter placement?

I don't get it. If there is an ashtray right in the middle of the dash, shouldn't there be a lighter somewhere? I don't smoke, but I want the lighter for an auxillary power source. I have the origninal glove box book for my car, and it doesn't show a cigarette lighter anywhere (I own a 69 TR6.) Moss sells a OE lighter and states that a cigarette lighter was an option. They don't say where it went. At the car show this weekend I noticed there was a hole in the center console covers they were selling - right below the radio. Is this the correct placement? How were these wired in?
Thanks, Kevin

That hole is for the interior (under dash) light switch. Back in the 70's everyone carried matches or Zippos. They couldn't fit the car lighters into their pipes, so who needed them?

And that switch that Paul is reffering to was only on later TR6's. Early cars only had the light that sat on top of the driveshaft tunnel and behind the seats.

If the cigarette lighter was an option it was most likely dealer installed. Which would be like trying to determine the correct location for a radio antennae. They were placed wherever that particular dealer wanted them to be.

If you want an additional power source you can get the right pieces from shops like Radio Shack and put it wherever you want it.

My 69TR came with a cigarette lighter located in the wood dashboard between the 5 gauge grouping. After some research trying to discover why none of the lights or bulbs in my car functioned, I discovered the original dashboard light dimmer dial had been located in that hole. One of a multitude of reasons none of the lights in my auto functioned.

I am six weeks into mid-process installing a Dan Masters total car wire harness.

Totally wierd what some POs do to their autos, isn't it?

I guess to some people being able to light their smoke is more important than being able to see how fast they are going, or how much gas they have. Then again maybe smokers don't drive at night. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
