TR6 TR6 choke knob

So I've just got my 1st TR6, a 73 and naturally been fixing all the things that don't work properly, including a whole bunch of those pesky Lucas gremlins.
So the choke doesn't want to disengage properly, looks like the twin choke cable to the Strombergs is binding.
I need to get the choke knob off the shaft so I can remove it, how does it come off short of breaking it?

there are two possibilities, and this one is the least likely:- Underneath the knob, at the dash end is a small hole, push unto the hole with a small screwdriver to release a spring loaded clip as you pull the knob off the shaft. The second is that the knob does not come off, and you have to get behind the dash and unscrew the nut that secures the assembly to the dahboard, withdraw the choke cables into the car.
I have had these cables all knot up inside the tube guide at the knob end, and a new cable is the answer.

On Tr3s and TR4s the choke disengages by turning the knob about 1/8 of a turn. It can be forced in but turning it releases it neatly. Didn't know if TR6s were like this but I'm sure someone here will know.

It does indeed have to be withdrawn from inside the car, once I had that tip there was no stopping me.
Turned out the the twin cable sheaths had seperated from the brass tube guide, I was able to lubricate the cables and recrimp the brass guide, all's well now.
