TR6 TR6 Choke Cable

I am doing a frame off restoration of a 74 TR6. I have SU Hitachi carbs from Paltech. I purchased a new choke cable from I don't remember where. The short cable is so short I can't come close to mounting the knob end in the dash. It would need to be close to an inch longer. Any advice?
 
Hi Fish, I assume the location of these carburetors is still on the stock intake? And I'm a little confused. Do you have the cables already tied to the choke on the carbs before you came through the plinth?
 
They are on the stock manifold. No, I fed the cables through the fire wall, put the cable ends in the carb and then tried to feed the knob end into the dash panel. The threads won't come through.
 
I measured one that I have. From the back of the knob to the end of the stranded wire, 36 inches on the shorty, and 45 inches on the long one. And I know these were fine on my ZS.
 
I would see what the overall length is first, then attach to the plinth with the back locking nut as far forward as you can put it keeping enough thread for the front nut. Then see what gives for length under the hood.

I used non standard carbs HS6 on a TR3&4 these required longer choke cables ( one to each carb) than I could find for TR4 or TR6. I contacted Albert at TRF and ask for the longest dual cable choke cable they had. It was for a GT6. It was plenty long enough. I even was able to shorten one side.
Call TRF.

I looked up the part number. 218304.
The knob is removable so you can put the correct one on for your car.

Looks like the cable you suggested is going to work great? The long cable is now a little long. How did you shorten the sheathing


without damaging the cable?
I used a cutting disc on a Dremel tool. The outer cable is a spiral sheath. So only needs to be cut through one piece of the spiral. So do it slowly and carefully.
On some of these cables I have been able to pull the knob and inner cable out several inches. I measured to determine how far I needed to retract the inner cable prior to cutting the outer sheath to get the inner cable out of harms way. I still used great care during cutting of the outer cable.
One caution is, prior to trying to pull the inner cable make sure the inner cable has NO burrs and will slip in and back out of the outer sheath. Most of the new inner cables will easily do this.
Once the outer sheath is cut you will then need to cut the inner cable to the preferred length. My cutting tools are not as sharp as the factory's and tend to leave a frayed end. This can be avoided by applying solder to the cable in the area where you are going to cut it. The solder will prevent any fraying.
