TR6 TR6 Brake Light Switch

Just a quick question to help someone out with a part.

Is the TR6 brake light switch under the bonnet (i.e. operated by the end of the pushrod like a TR3 or 4) or is it inside the car and directly operated by pedal movement? Thanks!

My '71 TR6 has a button type switch mounted at the brake pedal. When you push the pedal, you release the button, and the brake lights come on.....hopefully /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks. Appears to be the same part as used on a TR4 but mounted in an entirely different place (operated by the master cylinder push rod on a '4).

I was following a fellow club member on a drive on Saturday and his brake lights cam on every time he depressed the clutch (actually a nice feature for keeping tailgaters on their toes). His lights also came on when he braked so there is something squirrelly in his switch placement or connection.

That's very odd. I'd say he's got the switch mounted in the wrong place. To my knowledge, there has never been any type of switch mounted to the clutch pedal in a TR6.

The switch is attached to the brake pedal and depending how you bend the mounting bracket it can be on a hair trigger.
The clutch pedal and brake pedal are mounted on the same shaft and sounds like this one is activating in sympathy with the clutch pedal movement.
I like the idea of keeping the tailgater SUV's at bay with this arrangement, might adjust mine for the same effect!
