TR6 TR6 5 speed Trans

Yellow B,
There has been a discussion on the 6 Pack Forum on this subject. If you are a member of 6 Pack, check out their archives. If not, check out www.6pack.org.
It seems there is a guy (Herman Vandenakker-805-526-9526) that is selling a conversion kit that transforms a 5 speed Toyota gearbox to fit our TR6's. I have no connection. The discussion seems favorable.

In the October/November issue of British Car Magazine on page 65 there is a note on the Transmission Conversion Kits. You can e-mail a fellow by the name of Colin Dray at this address:
SALES@CONVERSIONCOMP.CO.NZ
The name of the company is:
Conversion Components of New Zealand

good luck

The "Toyota" trans, basic unit is used in jeeps, toyotas and S-10 pickups. Explore, you might find one of the later S-10 trannies with the hydraulic throwout bearing available. Don't know what the bellhousing boltup situation is with the Chevy, but I understand that part of the "kit" is the adapter to compensate for the difference.

This conversion has been discussed extensively on this site, search the archives and you'll likely find the info you are looking for.

This is the unit I had installed and I'm very happy with it!

Tired of listening to your engine rev itself to death on the highway? Can’t find an overdrive transmission that you know will work and not cost you thousands of dollars to rebuild? (Aside from being 30 to 50 years old, with 50 to 70 year old technology!) After many years of development, we can now offer a complete 5 speed conversion kit package for the Triumph TR series cars. This kit comes complete with a modified, rebuilt Ford type 9 (Sierra) 5 speed transmission with the standard Ford gear ratios and a one year warranty. It also includes a new driveshaft, new transmission rear flange, new cast aluminum bell housing, new engine pilot bushing, transmission mount kit, modified TR shifter to fit the Ford transmission, new speedometer cable, new clutch disk, and all hardware and instructions to install it in your car. You need to specify the year and model of your car and what year is your engine. (They are not always the same as the car’s year anymore!) This kit may require some exhaust modifications for the TR2/3 and early TR4 cars, depending on the type and manufacturer of your exhaust system. Other than that it is a bolt in conversion. You reuse your flywheel, clutch components, starter, slave cylinder and all other stock components. The speedometer must be recalibrated. The kit requires no cutting of sheet metal and is totally reversible if you ever want to put the original transmission back in the car

Herman van den Akker from HVDA Conversions sell the kit based on the Toyota Celica trans. Quantum Mechanics has a kit that uses the Ford Sierra box. Herman's kit requires you to source the Toyota trans, but they can be had for $150-$300.

I have the HVDA with a W58 in mine. I've posted about it before - do a search and you'll find more than you'll ever want to know about them.
