TR4/4A TR4A Windshield Installation Question

Is any sealant used when the windshield is installed or is the rubber gasket all that is required? Thanks

You will be a lot happier if you use a seal you can get from any auto parts store. Use a chaulking gun to apply all the way around before you put in the plastic chrome, do it from the front.
If it leaks on a rainy day, it works its way under the dash and onto the wiring, now is has become a big deal!!

I didn't see sealant when I have taken a couple off, and haven't used sealant when I have installed a couple, haven't had a problem, if you are worried about leaks I suppose it could be cheap insurance in the probably won't hurt might help variety.

The last installation I had done by a professional installer and watched the install, learned a few things too, he didn't use any sealant.

I didn't use sealant on mine; however, if when you're done you see gaps or areas where leaks could occur, you could add sealant later. My car is either in the garage, or in the sunshine, so I don't worry about it. But I did check around and don't recall being told sealant was necessary.

Another question. Is it easier to replace the windshield glass with the frame off or on the car? Also, is the chrome strip installed on the weather strip before putting the weather strip on the glass? Thanks

Chrome strip is installed after install of windshield and it will be much easier to install the glass with the frame installed on the car. Have a pro do it. It's less expensive than another glass!

I asked so many questions from the windshield repair shop that a young shop kid offered to stop by and showed me how. Yes , he did it all. It is a tough job for any neophyte. Yes, he got the good tip , and I we were both very happy. Yes the chrome ( plastic ) went in at the end.
