Running hot @ 3/4 or higher even on short trips. Read through search results where there seems to be a lot of areas to review, but this was my start. Housing pretty corroded with some black buildup inside. Thermostat looks to be original, is it worth cleaning, testing, or just replace? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Up to you, I don't see anything wrong with trying to save it if you want.
 
Thanks Randall, didn't know if there were inherent problems with the originals. I'll give it a test.
