TR4/4A tr4a speedometer cable

My 1966 tr4a is equipped with overdrive and there is a angle drive on the trans. My question is what is the propper length speedometer cable. The cable that is currently on the car is so long the previous owner made a complete loop in it just before it enters the fire wall. The speedometer fluctuates at low speed and I think it is because the loop is making it bind up. I have read that tr4 takes a 96" cable without an angle drive. I am guessing that is what I have. Some sellers say 78" is right, others say the tr6 69" ia right, others say 66". I would like to get the right length cable (with no extra). Your help on this will be greatly appreciated. Grant

The TR4A SPC lists 504948 as the part number for the overdrive and non-overdrive cable for LHS cars and TRF shows that as applicable to the TR6 as well (which makes sense) and show the length as 69".

What he said. Or you could just order by factory part number

Measure the loop and subtract from total length.

Mine which was ordered from TRF was too long as you describe if I went directly to the speedo diagonally over the top of the gearbox. Can't recall where I came up with it but changed to straight forward along right side of gearbox, up that side in engine compartment and then across top behind engine, thru firewall to speedo. The length is just right for that, no kinks, works great.

I have the exact same car with OD. Replaced my speedo cable back in 2004. Per my notes, the first one I ordered was too long. Went back and ordered the shorter one (63") and it fit perfectly. If you need details I have the receipt w/ part number in my records.

It exits the fire wall, wraps down behind the fuel pump and is routed across the top of the fly wheel bell housing to the right hand side of the tranny where it connects to the angle drive. It's run fine in this configuration for 9 years, about 1,000 miles per year
