What oil should I use in my tr4a. It has original motor and oil filter canister with 89k miles. As far as I know there has been no engine work done. I am happy with the way it runs. Your addvice will be appreciated, also I live in western washington. thank you grant:rolleye:

20W50 is the usual recommendation. I like Valvoline VR1, as it has good levels of ZDDP, and is readily available.

That far north, I might give 10W30 a try first and see how your hot idle oil pressure is. But with nearly 90k, I think the 20W50 is probably better.

I also like Valvoline, though I'm not convinced about the need for extra ZDDP in a stock TR engine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I switched to 20w50 valvoline vr1 and it improved the oil pressure about 10# at idle to 30# and the up to 55# running down the road. I am not sure if I had it before but now I get a puff of blue smoke each time I start the engine. Is this normal for a 90k engine? grant

I wouldn't call it "normal", but I also wouldn't go tearing the engine down just for that. Save up your nickles and dimes; then rebuild when you've got more symptoms (smoke all the time, low and uneven compression readings, knocking noises at startup, etc.)
