Got out to the hanger, and related to my other question this AM, I pulled the transmission cover off the long suffering TR4A.

It is metal, been smashed/hammered to fit at some point and has lots of access panels cut into it.

Amazing! That's a TR3 tunnel that has been beat to fit. Most of the access holes I can see are original; the square gray patch on the LH side is where the OD wires originally went, while there was a dipstick for the gearbox under the hole on the RH side. The round cap at the rear was originally rubber, to allow the front U-joint to be serviced. Not sure why that big rectangular section has been cut & shut; maybe the DPO had to graft two of them together or something.

Anyway, the poly is probably better (no personal experience).

I'd go poly for sure.

TD, that would be a great item to hang on your Treasure Wall, it wold be a shame to just toss it. I mean to say that is creative re-paring at it's best, er, um or worst?

Cheers, Tinkerman

<span style="color: #990000">TD: I have to agree with Tinkerman.
Send it on down to me and I'll add it to my Crate of Shame -
DPO Pedro's jerry rigged and buggered up parts I've had to replace.

I agree it's ugly... OTOH, in another post I related the tale of a friend who had a TR3A gearbox grenade at speed. The metal tunnel was the only reason he and his wife didn't end up in the ER having needle bearings plucked out of there calves (or worse).

I have both a poly and a fiber glass tunnel. FG is very nice and seems a bit more substanchel (sp).
