I just noticed if I look at the back of my TR4A IRS it appears to lean slightly toward the drivers side. I had a Spitfire that did the same thing, but new bushings and a new road spring cured it.

my car has had the Moss tube shock conversion done, don't know if this is a factor or not.
 
It could very well be caused by the left front coil spring sagging from age/weight of driver (no insult intended). It's more noticeable from the rear of the car. To verify have a strong person lift the left front wheel well upwards carefully while you're viewing the car from behind. I'll bet you'll see it sitting square.

Had a similar problem with my TR6. New springs and NEW bushings did not help. I ended up using aluminum spacers (LF and LR) on top of the springs and all is good now.

I had same w/ a TR4A proj in 2000. Tried matching new springs, finally got them balanced to where it leveled the car. Glad to give you the other 2-3 springs I have if you pay shipping.
I like the idea of shimming, but may be safer w/ just the springs.

You could swap the left and right rear springs to see if the lean follows a spring. It's not that hard and doesn't cost anything. Before I installed new springs and the adjustable brackets (in my leaning TR6), I tried that.
 
I think I read the TR3 had different springs for driver and passenger side with the driver's side being a little stiffer. This was so that the car would ride level with only the driver. The car leaned a little to the passenger side when it was empty. Did the TR4 have the same thing? Could it be that you have them the wrong way around?
 
On the TR4 -- Not a stiffer spring I think, but an extra leaf in the passenger side. But the question was about a 4A so this info is not applicable.
