Removed the gas tank casing board to patch up a few holes and do a general cleaning and inspection. Just a few rust spots where something rubbed on the bottom of the tank to clean and touch up. My question is about the spare tire well. It looks pretty rough by the hook and wondered if this was common, or somebody painted over it without prep?

Otherwise it seems pretty good other than some flaking paint by the sending unit. (I knocked the other felt strip off during initial cleaning)

Looks good to me, just your normal surface rust that's been painted. You can fill them with primer by dripping it in the holes, but don't stay in one spot, keep moving around.

Or!! Sand it off. wire brush and fill with bondo or solder. What was done before bondo.

Looks Identical to my 250, I mean exact match, down to the removed rubber plug at center forward, I took mine out to provide ventilation.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to figure out how to contort to get to the braces above the tank for cleaning without pulling the tank. Kinda looks like it was painted with the brackets in place. I'm not sure if it's really a problem or if ends up eating through the rear deck.
