TR4/4A TR4A IRS rear suspension rebuild

Hi,

I'm a regular contributor on the Spridget forum, but not very experienced in Triumphs. I'm looking for some guidance on rebuilding hubs and U-joints for a TR4A IRS. It appears that buying the hubs already rebuilt might be a good way to go but the one outfit I found that used to offer them no longer does. I didn't have any luck searching the archives, so any advice leads or links to previous threads appreciated.

I agree. You can't really rebuild them yourself. Last I looked TRF was around $300 for rebuilt and Goodparts hubs were around $350. I put in the hubs but did not do the axles due to $.

We've done them at our Triumph tech sessions, but Tony at Ratco (which is where we have the sessions), has the press and tooling necessary for the job. U-Joints of course are not a problem doing yourself. They're common Cardan joints.

Thank you for the recommendation. It looks like good quality. Any special tools or anything to watch out for in swapping them out?

They pop right in but check the different choices, one for stock axle and one for his.
Another good thing to do is Heli-Coil the studs in the trailing arm which hold the hub and everything to it. A known weak spot.

Google TR6 rear hub repair and you should find Rick Patton who makes the kit to fix the threads for the 6 studs in the trailing arms. You'll need to buy the keen certs from McMaster Carr. Ricks kit is well made, I've used it, works perfect.

Where would I find Rick Patton and what's involved with the kit, since I would need to buy inserts separately?

Here's a link Danielson TR6 . Instead of buying all the stuff I took them to a speed shop. Guy looked at it and said no problem, I have a template I can use from last weeks job, come back tomorrow with $75.
