Has anyone found an alternative to the stock wiper motor on the TR4A? Anyone who has attempted to service one knows of what I speak. Mine is dead and before I sink a lot of money into it I am seeking options. I would be willing to move to a single speed if there was an affordable alternative. Anyone? Don
 
What is wrong with yours? You have power and the switch isn't bad?
Pretty basic Lucas design. Similar to the one in my Jag, except the park portion is internal on mine.
I rebuilt mine (had the wrong single speed unit with the park portion removed) from two partials I picked up.
Had the get the correct degree sweep wheel out of SNG to sweep right.
Not too many choices for a push-pull cable operated unit.
Once you have determined you have all the power you need, it's probably worn out brushes.
I found a chisel helps when rebuilding to get the concreted grease out (joke), but once de-solidified, greased and oiled, new brushes, it works fine.
And I use mine all the time.

Thanks to all. Reason for seeking a new (working) motor: when I took the cover off of mine lots of rusty pieces fell out. Thanks for the comments on Lawrie. Saw his website and was considering that route but was concerned about the quality of the work. Kind of a leap of faith to send away a motor for rebuild without knowing the price up front. Good to hear the rave reviews of his work.
 
I posted a technical article on the BCF home page that shows how to use any single speed DR3 motor and get 2-speed operation like the 4A original.

There is a video on a recent thread of one running.

Its only the 2-speed ones that are expensive.

Alternatively you can make a new bracket and fit a TR6 14W type.

This is a common fix in the UK. All our wiper-motors get worn-out because
its always raining.

All the spares for the DR3 motors are available in the UK.
