anyone install a replacement fuel line kit from VB? they are copper and go from the fuel tank to the pump. Seems like a good Idea, just that it would not be original and probably not look so perfect under the car.
 
Haven't seen a VB kit.

They are not likely to be pure copper which is subject to work hardening & fatigue fracture. More likely copper plated steel or 90 % copper/nickel alloy (UNS C70600) which is a very good material.

Steel could be Zinc coated which holds up pretty well. You may already know what uncoated steel looks like in a few years.

How important is originality?

You can buy a roll of 5/16" bundy tubing from McMasterCarr.com. It's an alloy so it won't crack & break like pure copper would. Use a length of rubber fuel line beween the tank outlet and bundy tubing, and also one between the bundy tubing and fuel pump inlet to isolate from vibration stresses. Peter

Tip: to straighten a roll of metal tubing, I place it on a concrete floor (I actually set it on an expansion joint on my shop floor), holding it down the roll as I unroll it away from the roll to the approx length that I need. Keeps it nice and straight and kink free.
 
Don't waste your money on that VB kit. I bought one of those "ready made" fuel feed kits for my Midget. They didn't come with the fitting that goes into the tank, the end wasn't flared to take a fitting, and they didn't even have enough tubing to do the whole line up to the carburetor. The long piece I had to cut to the right size with a tubing cutter, but I was wholly unimpressed by it. They did eventually send the right fitting after I complained. The tubing is pure copper though, not copper plated steel.

Thanks Peter, I ordered a roll, what you say makes sense. I was worried about the tank fitting but I see how using rubber fuel line should work well.
