TR4/4A TR4A Carpet Question

Its time to order carpet and we're not after the top of the line wool or a bargain basement set either but something in the middle. We're down to about two choices of manufacturers and would like to know what type of carpet was originally fitted to the TR4A? Tufted, cut pile, or loop? Also any preferences to these three types? Thanks

I like cut pile, but I'm not sure that was stock. I didn't want to spend a fortune, but I liked Rimmer Bros Black English Wool. It as heavy with a good backing, and 90% wool. I had a cheap loop carpet that made me cringe, and the engine noise came right thru it. I realize a good pad will stop some of that, but a good pad and a good carpet are even better.

There are many other options, and others will have suggestions.

It's been 30 years since I got my 4A, and even then there was very little carpet left, but I'm pretty sure it was a cut pile.

The kickpad remnants in my second TR4A showed cut pile as well. When I restored my first TR4A I actually went with loop for 2 reasons, 1. I was a poor college student and 2. I thought it has a more "vintage" look that went with the TR4A body style. I also went with the classic fender mirrors versus going back with the fender bullet mirrors it came with for the same reason.

I'm not sure what I'll do the next time around.

Sounds like cut pile was used from the factory so that's what we'll order. Still would like to know if anyone has used the British Parts Northwest carpet. Thanks

Well, they don't make their own. So you need to find out where it comes from

FWIW, I used cut pile automotive carpet and made my own. It came out nicer than the high dollar stuff I've seen. That being said, it's not edge bound or "factory". I don't like loop, gets too fuzzy.
