TR4/4A Tr4A carb. backfire

Hi Blev,
Welcome to the forums.
The most likely cause of your problem is that there is not enough oil in the dampers/dashpots. Remove the top central caps on the carb domes, withdraw the damper assemblies & fill the inner part of the visible tubes to about 1/2" below the top of the inner tubes with 20 wt engine oil. When you push the cap/damper assembly down into the tube, you should feel more resistance than when you withdraw the damper. It is a one way hydraulic valve.

Hello Bleverman,
also make sure your choke is working correctly, you may be running a bit weak when cold.
