TR4/4A TR4A After market Oil Cooler

Hi all,

65'TR4A here. Oil PSI ~ 50 psi then drops to 25-35 range when engine heats up. when hot and at idle gauge shows ~10 psi. Driving in south Florida so it is quite warm. Water temp stays in the normal range. Was considering adding an oil cooler to improve oil temp and possibly psi. Has anyone tried this in hotter climates and did it work??

Thanks,

Jim

50 psi cold is kind of low, even with 20W oil and tired bearings.
Have you checked the accuracy of the gauge?

My TR3 numbers were about that bad, until I stuffed some new rod bearings in. Now it's 70 psi cold, and about 30 psi hot idle (still on 20W50).

In addition to the rod bearings also check all of the oil pump clearances and remove all of the scoring on the pump bottom plate. This along with new rod bearings will make big improvement.
