My wire wheels are 15 inch, 60 Spoke chrome, 4.5 inch width. Would I be able to fit 185 SR 70/15 tires on those wheels? Should I go smaller? What I have now are 165 SR 15 which were original. Thanks.

Hi,

Tire dimensions vary a bit from one manufacturer to the other. So, might I suggest you look at the tire manufacturer's website. Most list what size range of wheel widths should be used with each tire size & profile. They also usually give you the tire's outside diameter, which can be helpful to keep your speedo relatively accurate. (TR4 originally used 24"-25" diameter tires and you probably already know there were different speedos installed for OD, non-OD and the various optiona differential ratios.) .

You will probably have trouble with the 185/70r15.Yoko has a great 185/65r15 that is a much safer bet.Old springs may let the wings hit the front tires in turns. Also the 65 aspect is very close to the original overall diameter in comparison.....

The Tire Rack, who are sponsors of this forum, have a very useful feature which gives all relevant dimensions of the tires, and the manufacturer's recommended rim width.
Their search feature allows you to compare products from several manufacturers by choosing a category and size.
Simon.
