Is there some trick to setting the "set screw" on the choke cable so that everything works just right.

Before I messed with it, it was darn near perfect. Now, the choke feels too tight and ineffective.

On another SU question, I notice the idle jumping around depending on engine temperature. It's right only after running 25 minutes. At first it's dreadfully slow (500 rpm and stalling), then around 1100, finally settling at about 900.

I just don't want to be worrying about this on Sunday while the Cardinals are crushing the Eagles into international embarrassment and painful humiliation.

Maybe you are not getting a response because of your crazy statements about the Cardinals, but I if it is pretty cold, that is not unusual, that is why there is a throttle with the choke asjustment to turn up the idle when cold.

The cold oil and ignition chambers lead to slower running, then as it warms up and loosens up it speeds up, then finally as underhood temps rise and intake air thins it slows a little again.

My Triumphs, Healeys, and MGs from the 60s have all run that way more or less, set the idle so it is at a good speed when warmed up.
