Well, Triumph did it.
TR3A seats and early TR4 seats were identical (same upholstery to CT15nnn, same seat frame to CT20nnn).
If you want to put the TR3 seats (or more esp the seat pans) in a later TR4 then your question may be how well the captive mounts line up... though the modification of those would be fairly trivial.
This shot from the Moss catalog shows those 'type B' seats in both a TR3A and TR4 --
