Howdy again, I need a little more support for my back than the stock TR4 seats offer.I recently saw a TR4 on ebay with Mazda Miata seats. What are ya'lls favorite replacement seats. Remember , I'm old, fat, ugly, have bad back and ain't too bright. Any sugestions appreciated. Thanks Steve

Well, that description fits most of us here!

You wouldn't NEED another seat if'n ya had a Wedge! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif My TR8 seats are GREAT!

Seriously, though, the Miata seats are VERY comfortable. Fit the space nicely, as well.

You need to get Larry to give you his opinion - his Miata seats look very good in his TR4:

And remember, we may all be old, fat, ugly, etc. - but TRs are chick magnets.

Yeah, Randy, but at my age, my poles are reversed! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Steve,

I put Miata seats in my TR4. They are incredibly comfortable, but they are a modern seat in a 60s car. If you buy seats that don't need recovering, you can do the swap for about $250. Also, you won't need to drill new holes so you can always put the original seats back.

Here's a link to instructions. The height of the head rest is hidden a bit by my surrey top, otherwise they are a little bulky looking in my opinion.

Hi Larry, Just looking at the pics makes my back say AAAAAHHHHHHHH. Do the Miata seats have adjustable lumbar roll? THanks for the great info. Steve

I have a Miata, and yes, the seats are reasonably comfortable. I have a '92, and there is no lumbar adjustment. Just forward & aft and rake. Most of the Miata seats were covered in cloth, and the driver's seat always seems to wear through on the left side bolster...from entering and exiting the car. Also, most are in black. If you're going to re-cover them, then it should be possible to pick up a pair pretty cheap.

You might want to give the guys over at MazMart a call and see what they have. I've dealt with them on several occasions, and have been very satisfied with their service. They're also a sponser of the Miata Forum, and I've heard nothing but good things about them over there.

I also went with the Miata seats in our TR4 and am very pleased with them.

The seats that Vicky Brit sells will (should) fit inside your TR4. I have them in my TR6 (same tub).

They are:

Expensive
Extremely comfortable
Reasonable quality
Tricky to install (I made a seat sub-frame)
Gorgeous

I installed Corbeau Classics in my 4. Pretty much for the same reasons except fat, well maybe a little bit. Got the inflatable lumbar. I think they look vintage enough for a TR4. I put a lot of miles on this car, back does not bother me.
