TR4/4A TR4 Rear Brake Parts?

Rob,

They're Toyo R888's.

Also keep in mind it's one thing to get the brakes to lock up, but it's another to be able to have the pedal feel so you can modulate them at the threshold. You'll want to mess around with cylinder sizes and a proportioning valve to get to a point where you can lock them up, but in a predictable way. The Carbotechs are perfect, they're not as "grabby" as some of the other brands, but will stop the car as fast (or faster).

Oops, yeah, they're Yoko's.

The R888's have almost the exact same tread pattern.

Disagree about short lived for street driving. They're standard equipment on the Lotus Exige. They're much harder than the same tires in their class and are pretty bad race tires. They lasted about one or two years as the spec tire in SCCA's Spec Racer Ford, before SCCA broke the contract due to an overwhelming dislike of them from the drivers.

As always, I guess it depends on your pain level. From what I've heard, they last less than 10k miles, which for me would be less than a year. Dropping $1000/year on tires doesn't seem bad on a $70k sports car; but at least to me, seems excessive for a TR4.

But that's just my opinion, not even $.02 worth

I've heard some good stuff about these tires, besides, I'll most likely have more in the car by the time I'm finished with it than the cost of a new Lotus.

LOL!

Just kidding, but I just cannot see making all the performance mods I'm making and then tossing a set of average tires on it. This car will be lucky to see 5k miles a year, but a few good weekends at the track are bound to take their toll as well. It should be as sticky as a tree frog though. I'll splurge on the first set and then most likely tone it down a bit for the second set. Yoko makes a similar tire for less than half the cost of the Adven that looks interesting as well.

I got pumped about the Advan because of the size they offer it in. I don't think there is another tire on the market right now that is the equivalent of the Advan offered in a 205-55 or 60-15.

I think, but I'm not certain, that you can special order these tires in a softer compound.
