Hi all:

Does anyone sell the "studs" that go on TR4 steel wheels to retain the hubcaps? My wheels are missing several of them ... ok all of them!

They would probably be easy enough to make on a lathe, but they would be much easier to buy! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Any thoughts on how I might securely retain my hubcaps if I can't find replacements for these studs?

Hi Matt-

I've never seen those studs available separately, I always thought they were welded to the wheels. Are your broken off, or maybe are you using later TR6 rims?

After taking those hubcaps on my TR4 off, I don't see any other way they can be attached - so if you're good with the lathe, go for it, or maybe try and buy some old rims as I've seen them available from time to time.

The studs look like they are put on like a rivet ... put in the hole and then peened over.

I want to put wider than stock wheels on the TR4, but I want to retain the stock "look" and the stock hubcaps.

I got a set of TR250 wheels, which look like the same centers as the TR4 wheels, but they are 5.5 inches wide. There are no studs in any of the holes in these wheels ... it looks like somone removed all of them.

For whatever its worth???

I have a Set of 5 Really Nice TR4 rims painted in Spa White:

No dings, dangs, dents etc: Currently mounted on Michelins but If you want them (All 5 must go / Tires Stay); Make me an offer if your interested? I too have never seen the studs for sale, anywhere! I have no idea what the shipping costs would be UPS Ground (Probably One wheel to a Pkg)?

Oh, then you'd require either TR250 wheels or '69 TR6 wheels...best would be the '69 TR6 wheels as they're at least 5"...they may be 5.5" rims...I always forget

I was faced with a similar problem when I wanted to mount TR3 hubcaps on TR6 wheels.

Although not as nice as the original studs, I made some acceptable (to me) substitutes by cutting a short length of 1/4" id seamless steel tubing and putting a 1/4" bolt through it, and into a tapped hole in the wheel. After tightening the bolt into the wheel, I then ground off the side of the head to form the wide part of the stud.
 
Thanks Todd ... that's where I'm at, I have a set of 5.5 inch TR250 or Early TR6 wheels that are missing the hubcap studs.

Randall: Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Any chance you have any pictures? Have you had any problems with them? I figure I can thread the bolt through the hole in the wheel that is already there (where the original hubcap stud was).

Sorry, no photos at the moment; although I suppose I could take some. Might be worth pointing out that the TR3 studs are much shorter than the TR250 & early TR6 ones.

I remade a couple of them to adjust the tension (once after I lost a hubcap) but otherwise no troubles at all.
