TR4/4A TR4 Handbrake - Cable Support

Does anyone know where I can get hold of the brackets shown here that parts 32, 33 and 34 go through, at either end of the cable part 30? I'm planning a handbrake overhaul, and the front support bracket is looking a little the worse for wear (the cable pulled out of it last time I needed to give the handbrake a good tug!).

I called Moss, and they don't appear to supply the part - at least not as part of the handbrake assembly. TRF and VB don't appear to do much on handbrakes at all. Does anyone know of anywhere else I might try?

Hi Mark-

Welcome to the forum. You sure you need the brackets themselves? I don't believe they are separate pieces, they are actually part of the frame. Here's a pic I pulled off the net showing the front bracket. If you are actually missing them, that suggests some frame problems too? If you need them, I think you will need to fabricate the mounts as I doubt they will be available separate from an entire frame.

Thanks Randy, that helps. They're not missing as such, but the front one isn't a solid as it might be - I pulled the lever fairly tight, and the cable bent the bracket before popping out of the channel.

I'll get it up high enough to have a proper look at the weekend - hopefully it just needs a bit of extra support, and isn't a sign of a rotten frame!

It certainly does appear that those brackets are welded to the frame, which in that case, Tony at Ratco should have them, as they would be supplied with the frames he builds. Since your on Long Island, you can always stop by at one of the tech sessions we have at Ratco almost every Saturday morning. We can take a look at what you've got there and get things fixed up for you. I have a feeling you may have problems with the cable itself or some other part of the mechanism, as those brackets just hold the sheath in place. There shouldn't be a lot of force exerted in those areas.

But, if you need a new bracket, I'm sure we can rig you up with one.

Thanks Art, I will make it one of these weekends! Just need to come up with a good excuse to drag myself away from my better half at that hour on a Saturday. I'm not a morning person

The sheath and cable both need replacing too; the cable's pretty much seized in there, which is why pulling the lever is pulling against the existing bracket.
