TR4/4A TR4 Gasoline Sending Unit

I am new to the forum and recently purchased a TR4. Can anyone tell me if I can replace the fuel sending unit without removing the fuel tank?

I also own a TR6.

Thanks,
Hoppy

I don't believe so. You could get the screws out with an angled screwdriver, but there isn't clearance to lift it out of the tank. It is possible that you could tip it back enough, but the TR4/4A tanks are about the easiest tanks to remove that you will find.

And welcome to the forum!

It can be done, you remove the top and side mounting bolts. Loosen the bottom two, remove the gas cap and rubber. Tank will tilt back enough to let you get to the sending unit.

New guys are coming out of the wood works.
Welcome one and all! :grouphug:

I think by the time you have expended the effort to get the tank freed up enough to get at the sender, you might as well take the tank out and work on it on the bench/floor. The only thing keeping it in there will be the fuel line and you might as well replace that little bit while you are back there.

Thanks. I was afraid there was too little room to remove the unit.

And thanks for the welcome notes.
