TR4/4A TR4 Dash Request

After powder coating a metal dash white (only to find that it was not original to a TR4 and had holes drilled in it to fit a wooden dash) I'm back to square one.

A. I need to find a complete original white dash, complete with glove box door and hinges cheep as I would have to powder coat it yet again... or
B. Find a complete wooden dash in need of restoration (which I can do!)

Having watched e-bay for the past two months, I'm now hoping someone has what I need sitting around in their garage and is willing to have it go to a new home /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Call Scott Harper at Team Triumph in Warren OH. He may have the metal dash. (330)392-7176

Hi Larry,

A third alternative would be to strip the powdercoating off the dash you have, weld up those extra holes and then re-finish the dash. (Powdercoating cannot be "touched up" around spot repairs.) This might be less expensive than either of the other two options, and if I recall correctly you really wanted to use a painted dash since it was somewhat unique to TR4.

BTW, I'm not sure I'd use powdercoating anyway, personally. That's because the dashes were painted Spa White which is a sort of off-white. That color dash was even used on later cars that had their exteriors painted the brighter "New White". I don't know of an exact match for Spa White in powdercoats, most appear either too bright white or too off-white, although a really talented PCer might be able to custom mix the color.

We might have chatted about this before, I forget. Do you have the switch plinth to fit the painted dash? I ask because I had a heck of a time finding one. It's a little deeper (or perhaps I should say the one for the wood dash is less deep, to accomodate the thickness of the wood). All the repro switch plinths made today (that I've seen) are for wood dashes, will leave a big gap with a painted dash.

I don't know this guy from Adam but it might be worth a look-see. 80 pounds convert to about $150 US. (Much better than the $500 from the major suppliers.
