TR4/4A TR4 conv frame

I have an older, like 62-63 conv frame. It has only 3 cross bars that fold up/down, no front piece to attach to the windshield top, but not missing any parts. Newer conv frames have the side pieces w/ rubber that seal better. Anyone know, would a newer frame fit, like a 67, or even a Spitfire frame? The Spit frame sure looks the same size. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! I think you are stuck with what you have. A TR4a or TR6 might be fitted with some work, but you'd be looking at swapping out the windshield frame for the front attachement, and on the rear you'd need some modifications to tie down the convertible top at a minimum. Not sure about the Spit frame.

The TR250 and TR6 frame has the side seals you are talking about, the TR4A frame is different as well, true folding convertible top, but no side seals, I have a spare TR4A frame, which I would let go cheap, but it would not be cheap to ship, and you wouldn't get the side seals as on the TR6.

Although I haven't actually tried it, since it is basically the same car under the skin the TR4a-6 frames should be able to be made to work, but you will have to re-do top and top frame mounting points.

Don't know about the Spit frame, spitfires do use the same windshield glass, so width should be alright, but length and side window openings would probably be off.

Correct. Through 1970, the Spitfire used the same windshield glass and frame, but the similarity to TR4 pretty much stops there. But like the original Spitfire 4 and Mk2, the original TR4 top and frame, properly installed, actually seal out the weather pretty well (although they are a bit more "fiddly" to erect quickly). Further, when the top is down, the original TR4 frame almost completely disappears -- and nicely so -- behind the upholstery, leaving a much cleaner (IMO) "look" than even a well fitted top/hoodstick cover on the later cars.
