TR2/3/3A TR3B Signal Flasher Problem?

I went for a ride yesterday in my TR3B and noticed that when I put my left turn signal indicator on the amp meter needle would fluctuate back back and forth between -30 and +30 and the rpms would drop. After making the left turn, or manually turning off the indicator, everything seemed normal. This did not happen when I switch on the right turn signal. Could the problem be the flasher unit? The flasher unit is an old after-market (Echlin) non Lucas spade connector type. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe a bulb is out on the right side...mine bounces both sides.

Seriously, I don't think it could be the flasher unit, as that operates for both directions. It would affect left the same as right.

My guess would be a short between the left side lights and the signal switch in the column. It would be easy to verify, by seeing if the left signal lights are lighting. If there's a short, one or both will not.

What he said; flasher is fine, look for the short in the LH lights.

You might also want to check what you have for a fuse. The stock "35 amp" fuse was in an obsolete British fuse rating system that means the fuse will blow instantly at 35 amps. But modern fuses are usually rated by the current they will carry indefinitely, so that fuse was really a 17.5 amp fuse. If someone has accidentally stuck a modern 35 amp fuse in there, the wires will burn up before the fuse does.

PS, I use a 20 amp self-resetting circuit breaker that plugs into the fuse block in place of the fuse.
