TR2/3/3A TR3B license pl. light mounting

I thought I had the correct Lucas license plate light until I went to trial fit it today.
My steel lamp base has one channel gasket wrapped around edges, and looks to seal the glass and frame to body.
Problem is my rear valance has two about 1/2 holes, while lamp
base has two 8/32 studs, and a grommet for the wire, which also needs a hole for clearance.
The centers for the large holes in valance and the lamp base screws are also slightly off.
Any thoughts appreciated,
Thanks
Tom

I also have this problem with a light I bought from one of the big online catalogues. If I remember the stud spacing on the light was actually wider than the holes on the body.... I think I had to file the holes just to widen it enough for the studs on the light .

I think the problem comes down to another shoddy aftermarket part.

Thanks Herman,my lamp appears to be original lucas single bulb, and yes the studs are slightly wider than hole centers, but would fit since the body holes are 1/2+,but I would need fender washers inide trunk and need a notch in passenger side body hole for wire grommet.
I have seem pics of other post 60k rear with these big holes.
Confused,
Tom

FWIW -- My body guy thoughtfully wleded up those pesky holes so I ahd to redrill them. Mine is a pre-60K TR3A so I took these measurements from another pre-60K car:

I have a lamp assembly that came with a bunch of TR3B parts. If you or anybody else needs it let me know. The glass is broke and the chrome would need to redone. There is a premium on the price though, the post office is a pain these days.

Thanks Geo,your pic made me realize that the two small holes were filled, and an extra large hole on pass. side.
My lamp is actually fine, although my gasket is a little different than Kieths.
Thanks
