I am thinking of eventually changing my stock steel wheels to eight spoke cast wheels for my stock 165/80/15 tires.I could use some schooling on the differences between the -
Panasports,I think polished alum,look very nice,most expensive($275),
Minilite replicas(175)
Minilites($206)
VTO,advertised as steel inserts,painted-I dont reallly know what that means.
Thanks
Tom

If you want to stay with 165/80/15 I don't think VTO wheels are appropriate - as they are 6" width. Panasports and the Minilite/Minator/etc wheels can be purchased in 5.5" width so can still use the narrower profile tires. However, if you are going with a wider tire, I think the VTO rims are very nice - I'd definitely consider them versus the expense of similar Panasports.

Tom, I'd say it depends on the purse strings. I have a set of classic 8's ( mini rep's) on my TR3. I like them, you can set a set of them right now for around $560. I have panasports on the TR250, wider tires. Had them for years. Wires on all the other cars.

When I was little I had a toy car with a couple of different sets of wheels you could take on & off and switch around. I guess that made an impression on me as now I have 4 sets of TR wheels/tires: 2 steel (different colors), vintage alloys (wide), and wires. Fortunately I get to drive enough that I can wear the tires out before they die of old age.

I realize the alloy wheels offer some weight savings but for me the main advantage is being able to mount a wider tire some of the time.

So I'm saying: perhaps consider using both sets from time to time and take advantage of the ability of the alloys to safely handle a wider tire.

Tom,

I have a set of Panasports and 165/15 tires on my 3B and love them. They look awesome and the ride is unbelievable. They are so well made that there is not a single ounce of weight on any of them. The car tracks absolutely straight and can go at high speed (not that I do that often)without the slightest vibration. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Thanks for the replies and info.
Geo,I like the look of the 4 with those mag wheels.
Marv, who has the classic 8's for that price?I think the Panasports are my first choice, but I will take a closer look at the classic 8's also.
Thanks again
Tom
