TR2/3/3A TR3A Windshield Question

A recent TR3 posting has got me wondering about my windshield. My question - I have a 1961 TR3A (TS 78330), and when I removed my windshield (held on by four screws, not dzus fasteners) there were stanchion plates under the stanchions. In the parts catalogs I've looked at (Moss and others) they seem to imply that the stanchion plates were only used up until TS60000. Did my PO make a modification to the mounting process - or took a hybrid approach?

The stanchions for the earlier cars are different from those of the later (post TS60000 ) cars. The later stanchions do not have room for a "inner" bracket. And the earlier cars have three threaded holes for bolts to mount the inner bracket. Neither of these parts are compatible with the older or newer models. So if you have such a thing it would mean that the previous owner would had to have done some interesting modifications to get them to work.
But then the change over commission numbers have been in question on a lot of different items. My experience as been with a TR3B that had the no inner bracket and four large screws and a pre TS60000 car with the inner bracket.

On your TR3A, the stanchions were originally screwed directly into the scuttle...no plates or protection at all.

If you post a pic or two we can ID what you have going on...

Thanks for the response John and Charley. The TR is currently in winter storage, but when it's available again I'll take a few pics of the stanchion and plates and post them.

For such a simple part, the stanchions changed at least 5 times in production. There were a couple early type, using the dzus plate on the scuttle, so the screen could be slid on and off. Then, there were 3 types that screwed directly to the scuttle. Some are interchangable, while others are not. My TR3 came with a plate stanchion that was screwed into the scuttle...so aberrations are common, LOL.
