TR2/3/3A TR3A Overdrive Adaptor Plate!!

I am in the process of rebuilding a "A" type overdrive transmission for my TR3A. I have read lots of posts regarding warpage of the adaptor plate particularly along the lower contact area. Obviously I am keen to ensure that I don't get an oil leak in this location & I was wondering how much distortion is too much? When I lay a streight edge along the lower mating surface I can just get a 0.003" feeler gauge to slide under in the middle area of the ruler. Would this be a problem of would there have to be a much more significant "gap" to cause a leak?

Many thanks, Neil.

If the total error is only .003" then it might seal (with a thick gasket and Hylomar or your favorite dressing). But your straightedge doesn't tell you the whole story.

Personally, I would want to do a test fit against the housing (with no gasket), and then at least try to dress it back to as flat as I could get it. What I did do was to buy one of John Esposito's thicker adapter plates:

Although listed for TR4-6 (and I have a TR6 box in my TR3), they will work with the TR3 crash box as well.
