This is a close-up photo of the boot flange on the off side of my 3A. You will notice the arrow points to a small hole. At first we thought that this might have something to do with supporting the wiring loom, but now we're not sure. Does anyone have a clue?
+1 on not supposed to be there. But I wouldn't ignore it, as it is going to allow water to leak into the trunk when it rains. My 3A had a somewhat similar hole on the other side due to rust, and it leaked enough to be a problem.
Since it's not visible with the lid closed, I just stuck a patch of fiberglass cloth and JB weld over the hole from underneath.
Oh, one other thing, Frank. On my 3A, the wiring loom was on the other side, and laid on the floor of the trunk. ISTR there were some metal straps to hold it in place, but it also laid directly on the floor of the trunk.
Randall, thanks and yes you are correct about the wiring loom! As far the hole, it's small - less than 1/4 inch. I was thinking of a rubber plug cemented from below, and on top a little seam sealer and of course gray paint.
That small hole was most likely drilled by a PO to fix something from moving around inside the trunk. Or possibly for a bracket for a trunk light, or a light switch.
An easy way to fill it might be a tube of light grey caulk from a hardware store, which will be a very close match for Silverstone. Push a dab up from below and smooth it off on top and Bob's your uncle.
