TR2/3/3A TR3A Handbrake spring?

All,

The last thing I have to do before registering my car is to make the handbrake work. While beginning to work on it, I see a spring on it that I can't find in any book. I'm thinking maybe the PO attached this so the handle didn't flop around...but I could be wrong. Is this spring legit?

I obviously haven't figured out how to increase the size of my pic's yet, hopefully you'll be able to see what I'm talking about.

It's bogus. There should be a spring on the other end of the cable, that provides light tension against the handle.

Thanks once again Randall, that is the picture from Bentley manual I was looking at too. Unfortunately, its gets worse. Below is a picture of what I found after removing the lever from the car.

I realize the picture isn't very good, but what you're looking at is a washer welded onto the bolt between the lever and the attachment plate. Good ole backyard engineering

I'm kind of happy I'm traveling on business this week, it will give me time to get the new parts in.

Hello....... Victoria British?????
