TR2/3/3A TR3A Gearbox fluid capacity question

I have what appears to be a stock gearbox on my TR3A. No dipstick. I read that capacity is 1.8 pints. It has a square plug in the bottom for drainage and a square plug in the side for filling. In addition to the 1.8 pint capacity, I have read that you should just fill it until it comes out the fill hole. I have added the 1.8 pints and it is still well below the fill hole. I would guess it would take another have pint minimum to get it to that level. So..... Do I stick with the 1.8 pints or fill it until it comes out the fill hole?

Bottom of fill hole is correct.

Is the car flat on the ground with four wheels or is it jacked up, thus altering the angle of the gearbox.

About 1 qt for a plain box and about 2 for one with OD.

Finished filling it to fill plug level yesterday. Car level. About 1.2 quarts
