TR2/3/3A TR3A Fiberglass Cappings

Right now, we're in the process of dry fitting all the capping pieces before we paint. The piece are not yet covered with vinyl.

We purchased new elbow capping pieces from Moss and they turned out to be the fiberglass versions of the originals.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to fit our car. On the passenger side, we're unable to get the capping piece to spread wide enough to fit over the outside of the body and over the inside where it needs to be screwed. It's almost exactly the same on the driver side, although we've managed to get it on there once, pretty much by forcing it.

We've never worked with fiberglass before. My father suggested cutting the caps and widening them by 1/4 of an inch, which is about what they would need to fit on there correctly.

Has anyone else used these capping pieces? How did you get them on? Anyone have any other suggestions for getting these to work?
