TR2/3/3A TR3A Emblem: Best to repair old, or buy new one?

My 1959 TR3A TS35713 currently has a nice, blue front apron emblem -- which I believe is "incorrect" for a car of that vintage. I'd like to get a red one that doesn't say "Triumph" on the lower part. A decent looking red one just sold on Ebay for something like $160, and TRF sells repros for more than that. Does anyone out there have experience with finding emblems for less money than that? -- Not sure if I really want to spend the "big dollars" just to get an emblem of the correct color. Ones at swap meets would probably be less, but not sure if I can expect to ever find one. Any collective wisdom on the topic...?

The change point from red/black to blue/white apron badges was somewhere around TS41878.

Only red/black badges for TR2/3 small mouth cars had "Triumph" across the bottom. For the TR3A with Triumph letters across the apron, you need a badge with "TR3" on the top and a plain red band across the bottom.

Some red/black badges are floating around with the vertical red/black lines transposed. That was a wrong batch of repro's made years ago, if you happen to strike one of those and are puzzled by it.

Dismantlers Triumphs Only in CA might have a badge, but recently they were trying to sell their yard full of wrecked cars as a job lot. Macy's garage might be worth a try, as they've been parting out a barn full of TR's.

Good luck with the search,

Viv.

If you can find one at a swap meet that has the color (cloisonne) part in good shape you can get the chrome replated for around $30.00.

Hi Parker,

Today must be your "Lucky Day"!! I just happen to have what your looking for in pretty nice shape.

Send my your email address & I`ll shoot you a pic of my Medallion. My address is: toysrrus@att.net.

Actually; I need the "Red / Black" TR3 Medallion with the "TRIUMPH" script on the lower end for my `57 Small Mouth if someone out there has a "NICE" one.

Thanx, Russ

Depends on how nice you want as to whether you will find one at a swap meet. Generally they will have pretty obvious chips in the glass. As for the question of repair, I looked into it - it was going to be double the cost of s repro. I think the repair route is for more rare pieces.

If you don't go with Russ's piece, and just to let you know, I got mine on sale at TRF for $149.00 Be patient - they run nice sales after Jan-Feb during their slow season.

I am also looking for the red and black medallion for my 59/60 tr3a,because I like the colors, and it will go better with my future paint job. Thanks to a link I got on this forum I found these.
Has anyone seen them in person?39 euros seems prety cheap.
They seem to have the descritptions of the tr3 and tr3a reversed, but I know which one I want.
Thanks
Tom

That seems very cheap by comparison.

TRF's catalog indicates they didn't like what was available from the English sources so they made their own. Moss Motors price is similar to TRF's.

I purchased one of the 'reversed' red/black emblems with no TRIUMPH across the bottom from ebay back in 07 for $31.50 including shipping. Both mounting posts were broke off, and it's not correct for my car, but I didn't care. The face looks perfect (aside from the fact it's backwards). I epoxied a base plate to it with mounting (threaded) studs and am good to go. I've seen some deals since then but not quite as good.

You never know what you'll find on ebay, or what shape it will be in, or if you might be able to use it. -I've since recovered from my ebay habit and hope I have everything I need. I've had some good purchases, and wasted some money too.

I sort of like the idea of using parts that are so full of history.

Parker, welcome to the forum.

ebay Be very very quite........
