TR2/3/3A TR3A Choke Cable Questions

Working on my choke cable and curious about the routing. One picture I have shows it coming underneath and to the front of the carbs another I saw showed it looping over and in between the carbs. Which is the better route? Also any tricks to shortening the cable?

To shorten mine, I wrapped the inner cable tightly in masking tape, and then cut through the tape with a Dremel & abrasive cutoff blade. Then I remove the inner cable while shortening the outer cable with the same tool (but no masking tape).

Hmm, no one mentioned it in the thread referenced above : It helps to depress the throttle slightly while you pull the choke knob out.
