TR2/3/3A TR3A Bumper

I need a bumper bar for my 1959 TR3A TS45911L. Anyone have one that's straight enough to be straightened and rechromed? Or point me in a direction besides Moss, etc. I'm nearing completion of a frame-off restoration and believe it or don't, the bumper that was on my project car is actually from a TR4. It's a long story. In any case, I have a beautifully rechromed, straight TR4 bumper bar for which I have no use. If you need one, let me know. Send a message to my email and I'll send you pictures.

Hey, tmc -

You need to post this over on the Triumph side; this is the forum for help with posting here.

Moving to Triumph Forum. Also - Click on the "Classifieds" and post a "Wanted" thread in the Triumph section.

FWIW, I am quite satisfied with the bumper I got from Jorge down in Chula Vista. He regularly lists on ebaY:

TR3A Bumper

I've had that bumper on for about 12 years now, still looks great.

The repros (including his) supposedly have a slightly different curve at each end where the bumper follows the shape of the wing -- but I've never had the opportunitly to compare a good original and typical repro side-by-side to really appreciate any difference.

There is a british Company named Harrington who make bumpers for all Triumphs in stainless steel. Reports I heard is that they are just as shiny as if they were chromed and they will never rust. Get it nicked and you can buff it out. See link below. They are made in Vietnam and shipped to you in less than a week - I have heard.

A friend needed one long center section for her rear bumper for her TR6 and bought a complete bumper from Harrigton for less than the big three TR suppliers could sell her the single piece.

We don't need no stinkin' bumpers...

Thanks, Geo. I've been kind of on the fence about whether to go chrome or SS, but with a testimonial like that, I'm convinced.

I've got one that is slightly bowed in the center, but could be straightened and rechromed. I chose to buy the new repro from Jorge on Ebay. Bought all 5 pieces for front and rear. I also considered the stainless ones, but the experience I've had with stainless on some step bars I bought for my truck, is that they seem to water spot and scratch easily and have noticed they look a little cloudy. But they don't get the "care" that a TR3 is likely to get. I believe the restorable bumper I have is an original. If you just prefer that and rechroming PM me. Cost of shipping is the big issue, Joe
ps. I don't notice any difference between the shape of the repro vs original, but really didn't inspect that closely.
