Well the thermostat head is certainly non-ferrous and likely at least partially aluminum. There is also an aluminum plug in the top of the head but I cannot recall if that is against the cooling jacket.
I realize they are probably concerned mostly about aluminum heads but if it were me I would use something friendlier.

I don't know if your TR3 uses the same thermostat housing as my 6, but if so, then yes, it's aluminum.
