TR2/3/3A TR3 with alternator conversion... red light stays on and low voltage on the voltmeter gauge?

Last thing I did was install a new solenoid. I did ground the black ground wire(thick black cable) on the back of the alternator to the nearby fender as it was not long enough to go to the NEG ground battery post. This is a British Wiring alternator kit that I have been running for a few years without problems.
