OK OK, I hear you all snickering already...

Is there any source for TR3 Windsheild Wiper Motors?

Failing that, any substitutes or innovations?

Hello TR3,
have you tried any specialist suppliers ay all? It is a common Lucas motor and exchange units are usually readily available.

Actually, I had my TR3 out last night while I was giving a talk on car topics to a group of local doctors. During the talk it started raining. Of course, I had half the tonneau up, half down, so my drivers seat got soaked (had the bonnet up too!)

On the way home it was raining pretty hard. The windshield wipers blades are old and pretty useless. Funny thing is that despite the rain, I didn't get that wet -- just my hair.

I had forgotten how scary it is to drive a TR3 at night on roads where it hasn't rained in many days (nice oil on the roads!) My friend drove my '69 Corvette back and he was sliding all over the place. (My wife drove it out there -- but it was her first time driving it in the 2.5 years I've had it, but she didn't want to drive it home at night, so she drove his Prius.)

Glenn -

Are you sure yours is done for? When I first tried mine...nothing. These motors are pretty simple. I took mine apart, cleaned it up, greased it, and it worked fine. Just a thought...

Aloha Glenn,

I agree with Mickey. These motors are pretty resilient and hard to fry. I've cleaned up a couple of these and they worked fine after. The commutator and brushes tend to get dirty over time. The grease in the gearbox end also hardens and should be replaced periodically. Additionally, check the drive cable to make sure it can move freely. Good luck with your motor.

Safety Fast,
Dave

The one other failure prone point I have encountered is that red wire that runs from the motor to the drive unit can break. I agree that these are so simple to open up and renew that that is the place to start.
