TR2/3/3A TR3 Turn Signal Lights Install

Been trying to finish my 1960 TR3. Bought new front and rear turn lights. The wires seem to go into the bases using bullet type connectors but when I tried that route they stuck out too far and he base would not go into the rubber boot. The connectors sit perpendicular to the base. This seems wrong. I ended up soldering the wires on the first one I did. Not gone any further yet awaiting a better idea?

Thanks, Donnie

They were perpendicular originally as well.

Mine were a snug fit, but I kept the bullet connectors. Had to turn them a bit as I recall and put a sharp bend in the wires. The rubber boot should stretch a bit to fit over, then you'll have to work it back and forth to get through the hole in the body/grill.
