TR2/3/3A TR3 Steering Column Blanking Plate

Can anyone post or send me a pic of the blanking plate for the steering coulumn for the RHD option? As you my know I am trying to build a car from a box of parts taken apart by someone else. It's the big hole on the right in the pic below. I've got nothing that looks even remotely correct.

I did order the seal from TRF, (below on left) but clearly something is missing. TRF does not have a part or a pic in their data base.

Thanks in advance, b

There is a metal plate that goes over the rubber piece. Sorry I don't have a photo of it, but the outline is the same as the rubber piece, with small countersunk holes for the two screws and a largish (like 2" or 3") hole in the middle. ISTR the outer edge is rolled slightly, so it fits down over the rubber piece a bit. For LHD, it is Stanpart 601962.

Thanks, Randall. Can anyone post a photo of this piece? DOr beter yet, does anyone know where to source it?

Here is a phot from my early TR3A (TS 27489 LO). The same parts would be on the other side for a right hand drive.

The plate is different for RHD, Don. But I'm sure you knew that

Scuttle vent drain

Is that were it should exit? I thought the tube attached to the transmission cover and exited there. Cheers, Mike

We had some debate on that; but the consensus seemed to be that only the battery box drain went through the transmission cover. I know I've seen cars that had the two lines joined with a tee in that cramped little space (making it almost impossible to get the carpet out) and no hole in the blanking piece; but apparently I'm the only one.

Thanks Randall. I was sure I read somewhere that a T was used to join the two drains, but a quick look just now doesn't show anything in my books. Guess that explains why there is a third hole in the gasket. I don't seem to have that blanking plate either, but I think I'll make something out of some flat stock. Cheers, Mike

Don, Randall - thanks so much. Turns out I did have the plate in an old box once I knew what to look for.

One final question: were all these plates black? Mine is black, on a red car, so I assume they were.

By the way, Macy's Garage shows a 29" drain pipe for the cowl vent, confirming there are 2 drain pipes. At least on cars with this blanking plate.

I knew I'd seen this double drain setup somewhere. Found it while looking for something else ... page 72 Piggott's Original Triumph TR2/3/3A. Cheers, Mike

I find myself needing this same steering blanking plate. I've spent over three weeks trying to track one down...with no luck. I'd be very obliged if anyone knows where I can buy one, new or used.

Keith was nice enough to send me one during my rebuild. I finally found mine, which I'd be happy to send to you.
