TR2/3/3A TR3 seat track width

Well, I don't know if this is "exact", but measuring from the center of each cap screw holding down the tracks, I come up with 11 1/4". That's the width between the center of the two cap screws holding down the tracks. For the length, I'd have to remove the seat, but if you have the tracks, you know what that is.

BTW, when I installed the tracks, I had to elongate the holes in the tracks and the seat bottoms (new tracks and floor) to get everything to fit enough to get the seat to move easily.

Emmett, I ditto Art, though mine measures 11", but that may have been operator error reading the tape measure at an angle. I also had to use a rat tail file on the seat bottoms to elongate the holes to get the fit right. Like Art, my tracks and floors to are new but the seat pans are original. I will have to do some fiddling to get the seats sliding OK. Just haven't done it yet, been fussing with the hand brake.

Thanks guys;
That's where I'm at. New tracks, old seats. Too much flex. I need to stiffen them up but I'm not sure which way.
I thought I might find sombody that had their seats out, and could measure the holes in the floorpan.
If I can start correctly, I may get better results.
Thanks again.
Emmett

My seats are out and I will be heading out to see them in a few. Give me 2 hrs and I will let you know.

For more pics see my flickr pages at Flickr and use the zoom function. Measured from the transmission cover nut on the floor pan at the front of the seat rails.

Larry, I actually bought mine from TRF on one of their weekend special deals. My floor pans came from TRF also. The rails fit the floor pans pretty well bu the original seat bottoms had to be worked on with a rat tail file. My passenger seat bottom needs some serious work because it is bent. It needs to be cut and straightned and I will have my body guy put some support in it so it doesnt happen again. Right now I cant move it on the rails. Drivers side needs a shim or two and it will be all right.
More than you wanted to know, but thought I would give you the full story.

About 5 years ago, I could no longer slide the seats in my 1958 TR3A back and forwards again. I don't know what went wrong. They were fine during its first life and for the first 12 years after I put in new floor pans during my restoration from 1987 to 1990. My solution was to leave all the bolts holding the tracks to the floor about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn loose. Since then, the seats slide nicely on the tracks.

A couple of you have mentioned new tracks! I was under the impression that early TR4 (same as TR3?) track were not available. Where can they be purchased new?

Larry-

I might be wrong, but if not don't get your hopes up. I thought the early 4's have a track with a lever and bakelite knob - not the same as what you see in the pics above. Then again, maybe the geometry is the same.

The early TR4 tracks are different then those on the TR3. You can see the breakdown and availabilty at Moss' site shown here. As you can see, the early TR4 tracks are unavailable. I guess it's just too short of a production run to reproduce.
