I know it is in here somewhere, but wasn't there someone who has some information on the cars without going to the heritage certificate site! I am trying to find the basic information on the second car I picked up.
Thanks

VTR keeps track of numbers, colors, and basic options. Are you looking for more detailed than that?

There is a US list which will issue a small document with some of the pertinent data for less cost that BMIHT. As I recall it used to be Joel Rosen but not sure who has it these days. Maybe a Look at the TRA site will reveal.

VTR looked to me to be the go to when I bought my car 10+ years ago. I went to the local guy they list, laughing and dancing in delight of my new purchase. Seemed as though I might as well have bought a Vega, he couldn't have cared less, didn't even ask my name. Same guy is still listed as President.

After that I figured I was on my own, got it running and then too late, found this place. Thanks Basil and all your friends.

When you say "local guy," are you referring to someone in a Chapter of VTR? I would note that local chapters of VTR, while affiliated with the parent organization, are very much autonomous groups with relatively little formal connection to the National VTR and do not necessarily represent or reflect VTR as a national group.

That said, if you had contacted VTR's vehicle consultant for the TR3, I am quite sure you would have gotten a thorough and knowledgeable response!

DISCLAIMER: I am a charter member (#113) and former president of The Vintage Triumph Register (national club).

From the VTR site. I don't know any more than this, went to his business and even exchanged coins to his advantage as a way of introduction.

Local clubs are often at the mercy of whomever is willing to run for office and the job can sometimes attract people who are not the best ambassadors for our hobby. That is no reflection on VTR, it is something beyond their control.

I know (personally) that it is hard to put a bad experience with a club president behind you and give the club a second chance.

As far as I can tell there is no club, just a guy who wants to add to his obit.

Exactly! Meanwhile, John noted that the "TR2 guy" was nice to him; I assume he was referring to VTR's TR2/3 vehicle consultant. I've been VTR's vehicle consultant for Heralds since just about forever. I've never made any fuss over whether a question came from a VTR member or not, and the same goes for just about all the other vehicle consultants, AFAIK. It's about the cars and the hobby first, not how the club will benefit. On the other hand, it has happened quite often that someone who inquired about their car eventually became a member of VTR, which is cool, but it was always a "thank you" from them rather than a "demand" from the club.

Along those same lines, VTR was pretty early in getting in on the Internet web site "thing." We decided early on to just put out as much information as we could, and it paid off in gaining new memberships (I suspect it still does)!

I am confused again, so VTR can tell me what color interior TS 27036 L had ?

No - their info is more generic to specific models. For something like interior color of a specific TR3 the two contacts named above (BMIHT & TRA) are the only sources I know of.

VTR. Seems I've been bashing these guys and I shouldn't. I appreciate all effort anyone puts forward for our love of TR's. But the name VTR implies they are the go to, they are not. They don't register. Am I missing something? Pretty website though.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I seem to recall (from a recent issue of The Vintage Triumph, VTR's magazine) that VTR can provide build information similar to that provided by BMIHT but at a much lower cost. Detail is similar but might not include some minutia such as what ship the car was placed on to get it to the US, etc.), and the certificate is nowhere near as fancy as the one BMIHT gives you. Ultimately, I think the information all comes from factory records, but VTR's comes via the Standard Register (UK). UPDATE: Here's a link:
