This has been discussed, but I just couldn't seem to come up with the right phrase to make the forum search cough up the goods...

I want to put removable-headrest bucket seats in my TR3, for a little more safety on the road -- and still be able to get the tonneau cover over 'em.

I remember the Corbeau brand being discussed here. Their Classic Bucket seat looks like the sort of thing I'm after.

Does anyone have personal experience squeezing this or any similar seat into a TR3? What fits?

What about bracketry? Is any kind of seat like this adaptable to the existing brackets? -- or -- What is necessary to get something else to work? The Corbeau web site, while claiming to have brackets for "thousands" of applications, doesn't have Triumph in their listings. They have Porsche 356 brackets, but no Triumph brackets... :frown:

I put Cobra Classic seats, which are copies of the Corbeau seats in your link, in the TR3 racecar. Except I used the non-headrest style, so I can't help ya there, sorry.

I made adaptor plates from .125 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum alloy plate because I wanted to use the original slider tracks. I drilled holes in the plates for the supplied seat attachment bolts and holes that matched up (sorta) with the studs on the sliders. I bolted the seats to the plates, then attached the assembly to the studs on the slider. Step two was kind of a pain. It was hard to get a wrench on the nuts.

The seats interfered with the gearbox cover, so I modified the cover with a BFH.

I wanted a little more rearward tilt, so I put a 1x1x.0625 (I think) 6061 channel under the front seat attach bolts. 2 inch would have been better.

They were very comfy seats! They really held me in place in the twisties. I hated to get out of the car, they felt so good.

Corbeau sells a "universal bracket" for their racing seats, which is whats in my 3 with the Clubman seats. The bracket attaches to the bottom of the seat and contains both the upper and lower rails in one unit (hope that makes sense

The attachment point is a bar that runs perpendicular to the seats at the front and requires drilling two holes in the floor pan and a reinforcement plate if you want to be double safe. That bar attaches to the front of the bracket.

You'll have to remove the stock TR seat rails.

There's a place called Motorsport Seats right here in the Twin Cities, that carries Corbeau, as well as a bunch of other seats and accessories. It's a guy working out of his home, where he also has a couple of Minis and a Lotus 7. I went down there today and measured the Corbeau GTS II. Adjustable back -- bonus!! I think they will fit. A pair of them are on the way.

The centers for the attachment bolts on the Corbeau seats and rails are 11-3/8" The centers on the TR rails are 11". Dang! So close -- though what fun would that have been, to just bolt 'em on? No welding or screwing around or anything...

An installation report will be in the near future.

The alloy wheels are on the way too. A ship came in. A portion of it is going to the Moses' TR3 Benevolent Fund.
 
Those look just like the Corbeau "Classic Bucket" -- with some very expensive two-tone leather covers on 'em.
 
Had that car as my wallpaper before my daughter changes it back to the family dog
