TR2/3/3A TR3 Rear Springs

I am restoring a 1959 TR3A. After taking my rear springs off I noticed that the one on the right side had 2 spacers that were the thickness of a leaf. These spacers were on the upper side of the spring where it mounts to the axle with the U-bolts.

I have another parts car and it has the same set-up. Did the cars come this way or have these been added to compensate for a weak spring or leveling of the car?

Thanks,

J.W.

They came that way. It seems tha they all had them.
